I protect it from the snow
In my office, there’s a planter, full of plants both small and sweet.
They are succulents, adapted to the height of summer’s heat.
Now, they do not like the winter, and they do not like the cold.
They don’t know they’re in Wisconsin, but they aren’t very old.
In my office I keep green things. They help purify the air.
And they give my eyes a break from all the unrelenting glare
Of computers, and the windows, and fluorescence overhead.
In return I give them water and a plant light. They’re not dead!
In my tiny office garden, all my plants grow green and strong.
It reminds me of the springtime that will come before too long,
And these plants can go outside again, where they can bloom and grow
There’s a garden in my office. I protect it from the snow!
