There is light in dishes

There is an incomparable solitary beauty in the sheen of light that reflects from a spoon new-cleaned as you dry it.

In this time of covid I have discovered it, lost it, found it again.

I don’t always remember, but today I did.

Today, washing up, I felt the pointless majesty, the deep-seated thrill of having done something Right, something True, something Real, even if it will only last until tomorrow’s dinner.

Dishes are simple. Everything else is hard.
